The Adcash advertiser platform allows you to blacklist / whitelist based on traffic source IDs within zones. In this article we’ll cover what that means and what you need in order to make use of this more granular optimization capability.
What is traffic source ID optimization?
The standard blacklisting / whitelisting functionality the Adcash advertiser offers allows you to optimize by zones (typically, these zones can represent sites, pages, placements on sites, depending on how a Publisher chooses to implement them).
Frequently, Publishers will include traffic source IDs for tracking purposes. If, for example, a Publisher zone may represent a large web portal with many different sub-sections, like Sports, Politics, etc and to help segment that traffic, each of those different sub-sections will be assigned a traffic source ID. It all very much depends on how the Publisher has chosen to implement the tracking functionality on their end.
How to obtain traffic source IDs for your ad campaigns
When you are creating your ad campaign, you need to make sure you include the [zone] parameter in the campaign URL. The Adcash server will then send over the zone and traffic source data within that parameter.
In order to track the performance of the individual traffic sources, you would need to be using your own ARPU/ROI tracking system. To do this, you can try using a platform like CPVLab.
Alternatively, if you’re using your own custom tracking solution, you should be able to pull the traffic source values from there directly.
Implementing traffic source IDs in your campaign blacklists / whitelists
The process of creating a traffic source ID blacklist / whitelist entry is exactly the same as creating a zone entry. You can read those steps in full, here.
The only difference is that you will need to include the traffic source ID, like:
[zone] = idzone-trafficsource1-trafficsource2
So, the full entry might look something like:
1197554-133156989-0 (if no “trafficsource2” value is provided by the Publisher)
1197554-133156989-987654 (if “trafficsource2” value is provided by the Publisher)
If there is no sub-ID then the just the zone ID will be sent.
